A Journal In Pictures

So much has happened over the last 2 months. We've been on the road, we've continued our work with the refugees, Billy's family came for a fun visit, house church has been phenomenal, Billy's been writing new songs constantly, Libby started Mom's Day Out for the year, we're almost at the 3 month mark in our official wait for our Ethiopia adoption, we're helping fundraise and prepare for the Orphan's Ticket Home Gala (see previous post!) AND Libby's 2nd. anniversary of Gotcha Day recently passed. Most of these occasions have been photographed to one degree or another -so instead of using a lot of words - I'm posting a lot of photos!

Billy and I headed out for a date on our 9 year anniversary.

For those who have been asking to see it - here's the living room in our new house. It's much wider and more open than our last house. We gave up closet space and bedroom space to get a bigger kitchen and living. We love it!

Gammy and Papa Boots came to visit - and they came bearing gifts! Here you can see the candy, camera and hair accessories. Libby LOVES her camera. I could barely get any pictures of her bc her new camera was always in front of her face. Grammy and Papa Boots also bought MORE gifts while they were in town! They bought a painting easel and paper, paints, brushes, etc! PLUS a tricycle. She was loved on and showered with fun blessings by her Grammy and Papa. She LOVES to paint and she even titles her paintings when she's done. It's so cute! Thank you Grammy and Papa Boots!!!!!

I love Libby's face here because it's like she just realized how delicious the candy is and how cool Grammy is for bringing it!

Aunt Wendy, Uncle Robbie and Cuz Brooke sent a precious gift as well! Thank you!

Libby is practicing her photography.

Libby and Papa Boots

After Grammy and Papa Boots left we went to Libby's Preschool (Mom's Day Out) Open House. We met one of her new teachers, Ms. Coco. Libby is really enjoying her new class and teachers! I'm not sure why Libby was making a pirate face. Maybe she just wanted to intimidate her new teacher, hee hee!

Libby's newly improved room. We painted a big flower on her wall and then, for her Gotcha Day present we added hooks and a ribbon along the wall to display her painted masterpieces.

Ta Da! I'm all dressed up for my Gotcha Day Dinner!

Sitting pretty! Now - can I please go eat at Ming Court, please? I'm hungry!

Truly a joy and delight - Libby's smile is AMAZING!

Libby and Mommy, both hungry and ready to celebrate - with food, of course!

Libby and her teddy bear dad!

Xuwen Sisters give a shout to all the other Xuwen girls!

Libby's "other family" - I love this pic because they are all actually looking at the camera while they each do their own random things. Such a perfect picture to describe the moment.

The 2nd. gift I got out of our China adoption journey - my incredibly beautiful friend, Cristie. Gosh, I love that girl!

Libby and Maliah wearing their "children of the world" aprons (which all the kids colored during dinner). I love this picture as I think it is one the girls will look back on as they grow in friendship over the years. Such sweetness!

The girls! Libby enjoys playing with the Martine girls so much! Her face just lights up when they are around!

Oh - now Libby is really making daddy proud. She's reeling in a bass on her daddy's flyrod.

All pics from our Sunday picnic on the Guad.

Final pic - if Libby sleeps through the night by herself (which is a new problem that stems from being on the road bc we share a bed in hotels) then she can have hot tea with her daddy the next morning. Here she is sitting like a grown up with her legs crossed, sipping on her hot tea. I just think this moment is priceless!

Okay - it took over 2 hours to upload all the photos - I'm done!
Peace out,
Cindy

2 Years Ago....(and the story keeps getting better!)

....we held Libby for the first time, on Sept 4, 2006. To get to that point we completed seven months of paperwork and then waited a LONG 15 months full of emotional highs and lows before boarding a plane headed to the other side of the world. And truly - the whole experience was "other worldly" for us. We were first time parents bringing a nine month old baby girl back across the globe to start a whole new life. We had no idea what we were doing and we certainly had no idea how Libby would change our lives forever. We knew we loved Libby before we ever saw her picture. When we saw her picture we loved her even more and were relieved that she was healthy and astounded by her BEAUTY! At first site face to face - we were blubbering like babies because the word "love" was not sufficient enough to describe the emotion and miracle that God poured out on us in that very moment.

At 9 months of age Libby was terrified at her first site of us. She was pale, sweaty, obviously tired and VERY HUNGRY! But so adorable! We, of course, did not know all her cries yet or how to understand what emotion she was expressing. But thinking back to that cry - now that I really know her cries - she was truly terrified. She is a cautious baby girl when she meets new people - even to this day. So to meet 2 white people (one of which is tall and bald with an intimidating goatee) who were immediately taking her out of her nanny's arms - she was just scared out of her wits. She cried for so long. We just held her and stared at her - we studied her every move, sound, expression. She was the most beautiful masterpiece God ever created and so deserved our awe and amazement.

Within hours Billy was comforting her with a bottle and making her laugh. Today that has new meaning because we know now just how much Libby LOVES to have fun! We were eager every morning to see her wake up. It was fun learning her schedule - when she would rise and when she would crash. The first morning, in particular, we were concerned about how she would react to waking up and remembering that she was with us and not at the orphanage. But God did a work in Libby that first night and when she woke, she smiled as if she knew the difference already.

One of the things I miss the most about our time in China is when I carried Libby in the Baby Bjorn. All day, every day as we walked around town and shopped I could sense Libby's sweet face looking up at me as her eyes studied every speck of my face. I would look down and stare deep into her eyes and smile - reminding her that we were a permanent part of her lives from this point forward. I miss those stares! She really saw me and I really saw her - soul to soul.

When we were waiting to discover who Libby was I struggled with some of the deepest fears about becoming a mother. I'll never forget when the Lord, through His Word, spoke a promise to me that Libby would be "a joy and delight". I was comforted incredibly with those words. And God has been faithful to His promise. If I had to describe Libby in two words - those are the words I would use - Joy and Delight! As I have come to know her deeply her joy has become a constant delight to me.

God has used Libby to open our eyes to so many truths about His own love for us. I continue to be overwhelmed by the thought that the One True God in all His power and majesty loves me and loves my daughter MORE than I love my daughter! I know her cries because I listen to her all day. I know when she wakes and when she sleeps and I know her joy and her disposition because I watch her all day, every day. But still, God loves so much more. How is that possible? This is the greatest mystery.

Well - maybe the greatest mystery is how He could plan, before the foundations of the world, to create such a perfect baby girl for our family to come from across a vast ocean and then fulfill the promise that He would bond her - an otherwise total stranger - to us. Perhaps a greater mystery is how Libby's inheritance could be so completely transformed in that one special moment of grasping her into our arms and hearts- She went from being a lonely, seemingly hopeless orphan to a child of the King of Kings with the gifts of family, love, belonging, hope AND a future - both on earth and eternity in that one second. So - maybe an even greater mystery is that He pursues us in much the same way. Jesus left glory, became poor, lived in this sinful world without a place to lay his head, was rejected by mankind and died a brutal death on the cross to pay the debt of our sin and conquered the sting of death when he rose from the grave- all just to rescue us - the sinful, selfish people who were the very cause of His lonely, gruesome death. He loved us while we were still sinners. How can this be? We had nothing to give so He gave it all and made us His own. Now that's an adoption story!

Just as I believe Libby will grow up with gratitude in her heart for what God put in our hearts to do for her - so I must live in a way that shows gratitude to my Father who rescued me. The only way we knew how to do that was to do for someone what He did for us. We adopted Libby and now we are adopting again. We're just doing what we see the Father do. We don't deserve a cookie or extra blessing for that. It was just our duty as followers of Jesus. He said, "Follow me." And we followed. And though we deserve no extra blessing for that - he showers them on us anyway - through her - Libby Song.

For anyone wondering if this is a road they should travel - the road of adoption - I don't know the answer for you. But I can tell you that the beautiful, miraculous work of adoption will draw you near to God in ways you could never expect. If His heart is truly to be close to "the least of these" and to bless the "poor in spirit" or to "defend the cause of the Fatherless" then please know that as you do the work of the Kingdom of God you will find HIM to be more intimate, loving, faithful, powerful, compassionate, and near to you than you thought possible on this earth. Every cost of following Him in this journey is worthwhile.

If you haven't been convinced yet... let me share with you a special story about how Jesus has used Libby to reveal to me His love for me and His love for her recently.

In the last several months I have become quite bogged down with the burdens of this world and I've been feeling angry - sometimes for no obvious reason. I shared with Billy on several occasions that I needed his prayers as I ask the Lord to show me the root of my anger. I was ready to be done with it, but just didn't know how. Last night I was particularly frustrated with Libby because I kept asking her to stop jumping on the nap-mat I was trying to fix for her first day of "Mom's Day Out". She wouldn't stop and in an effort to finish the task I continued to work without stopping to deal with her disobedience. So she kept on jumping on the nap-mat and inside I could feel the anger rise in me each time she ignored my words. She went to bed that night frustrated with me and I was frustrated with her. When I laid down to go to sleep I confessed all this to the Lord and begged for His mercy and grace over Libby and I both.

That night I had a second dream about a person of significance in my earlier years of life. The first time I had this dream, several weeks before, I woke up with my stomach in knots. How this person in my dream treated me when I was trying to talk with her and do for her, was so hurtful to me, but I couldn't completely understand why the hurt went so deep. Last night I dreamed basically the same dream again and the Lord began to show me why it hurt so much. I can't go into all the details here - for the sake of time and the sake of this person who just didn't know any better - but just know that it was the first time I realized that I had been carrying around a lot of hurt over not being heard and not being seen during a significant time in my life. I don't know what all the "Love Languages" are according to Gary Smalley - but my love language is apparently "being heard"a. If I know I'm heard and seen - I know I'm loved. If I feel unheard and unseen - I feel unloved. I went back to sleep asking the Lord to reveal to me the depth of this hurt and to set me free from it.

I woke this morning, still juggling the dream around in my head. I dropped my sweet Libby off at school and went to the gym. As I jogged, I listened to a worship CD and began asking the Lord again to set me free and show me what he had started to reveal in this dream.

And then - the Lord did just that. My mind went back to the times I tried to share my thoughts - in words or in actions - with various people in my life only to find that I would not be heard and would not even be acknowledged as I acted out my frustration from not being heard. The Lord revealed to me the generational nature of this and began to show me that I have believed, since that time, that I was not loved enough to be truly seen or heard - even by Him. It's hard to explain how big this revelation was to me. It affected every area of my life - from how I've been choosing (or not choosing) my friends based on who I thought would listen to me, to how hurt I felt when Libby or Billy didn't listen to me (hence my deep frustration with Libby the night before)- to all the years of vocal trouble I had (which God revealed to me was bc I had come to a point of thinking that if no one else really wanted to hear then I didn't want to hear myself - what would be the point). This was indeed huge! I was being set free in that very moment from a stronghold I was not even aware of just days before. The Lord even revealed to me that I had been putting the impossible expectation on Billy to know my thoughts before I even said them - now that sounds crazy, doesn't it? I truly had the romantic notion that to be really loved meant that Billy could look at me from across a room and know exactly what I felt or needed. So ridiculous right?

But wait - that's something we all want - to be known - really known. But God, in His love for us, has reserved that ability for Himself alone! All this time, what I have expected from family, friends and especially Billy was the thing that God wanted me to come to Him for and Him alone. We know from Scripture that He knows our thoughts before we even have them. He knows the number of hairs on our head. He collects our tears in a bottle and has recorded all our days. He is intimately acquainted with me - with you. So here I was in the gym and then, later, in my car fully grasping the kind of love God has for me - the kind of love that really sees me - that really hears me and I'm crying like a baby - in gratitude, in great joy. (I'm sure everyone around me thought I was crazy - a smiling, sobbing crazy woman!) And I'm reminded that as much as I love Libby - I will never know her like God knows her. As much as I am intimately acquainted with Billy - I will never know him like God knows him. And neither of them can fulfill that role for me either. And I began to realize - if I am set free from this unbelief that God really hears and sees me - and I truly believe that He does indeed see me and hear me - I don't have to be angry anymore - I'm heard, I'm loved and I'm satisfied in Him. No one has to make that happen for me anymore! Oh - there is so much freedom in that!

And in case that's not convincing enough--- as I sat in my car pondering all of this I picked up my "One Year Bible" which has certain passages for each day of the year. I turn to today's passage - Sept. 2 - and I read this, "At just the right time I heard you...Indeed, the 'right time' is now. Today is the day of salvation." II Corinthians 6:2 As you can imagine - the sobbing began again. I couldn't believe how perfectly God placed this word before me. The passage goes on as Paul is explaining to the Corinthians that he doesn't want them to waist the gift God has given them and that he also doesn't want them to close their hearts to him.

And in that moment I realize that I've been doing just that - I've been closing my heart to those dearest to me and even to God Himself. Out of the hurt of assuming that I wasn't heard or seen I just stopped sharing, stopped approaching, stopped letting people in. And this was the moment that I, by God's mercy and love, was being set free from that dreadful chain of unbelief. Not only did God see and hear me - but He planned before the beginning of time for me to read THAT PASSAGE on THAT DAY - so I would know how specific his love is for ME!

And if that isn't moving enough - I met up with Billy and shared with him this whole story after lunch. We cried together and sat amazed thinking of the way the Lord set this entire day up for this beautiful revelation. And then, Billy gently said, "I'm so glad this happened today because as you drove out of the driveway today I was thinking, 'I'll never be able to satisfy her the way she needs.' He was carrying around the great, horrible burden of my impossible expectation and I didn't even know it. But on THAT DAY - THIS DAY - I was set free and so - Billy was set free too.

I can not express the freedom I feel today - the comfort in knowing I don't have to struggle to be heard - the joy in knowing I am heard and seen by the King of Kings - the rest in knowing how different my prayer life will be in believing I am heard - the healing in knowing my husband doesn't have to struggle under the weight of my sinful expectations- AND - the joy of embracing motherhood for what it is. It is the journey of knowing Libby - the joy of really seeing her and hearing her the best the Lord will allow as I turn the table on the enemy who would rather me cycle through the curses over my life before this day - and then - the joy of teaching her the wonderful truths of how her Heavenly Father knows her - her every thought, her every move, and yes - - - Oh Yes - even the life she had in those 9 months before we took her in our arms. Every thing she will one day wish she could know about her past that I cannot ever have the ability to know or share with her - Her FATHER knows........And He has reserved the right to that knowledge for Himself so that she will be drawn to Him - the one who knows what she can not even know about herself. What a mysterious and yet completely comforting love He has for us.

Now does that make you cry or what!? I'm blubbering again.. gotta find the tissue and sleep under my Father's banner of love over me tonight!

The King Who Rescues The Weak And Takes Them To Be His Own Is The King Who Sees You and Hears You. It Is Impossible To Hide From Him! May He Be Your Strength and Joy As He Rescues You!

Orphan's Ticket Home Gala! MY CHALLENGE TO YOU!

My dear friend, Cristie Martine, is a Texas Associate for our adoption agency: America World Adoption Association. She is heading up a HUGE project - a Gala on behalf of AWAA to raise money for their Orphan's Ticket Home Campaign. You can go to www.orphanstickethome.org to read about all the details or you can read further here.

Orphan's Ticket Home Gala
Date: Friday, November 21st, 2008
Time: 6:30 PM until 9:00 PM
Location: Community Bible Church
Youth Sanctuary, 2477 N. Loop 1604 E., San Antonio, TX 78232 (Directions)

Guest Speakers:
Tom Davis, President & Founder of Children's Hope Chest & Author of Fields of the Fatherless & Red Letters. Brian Luwis, President, CEO & Founder of America World Adoption.

Music: Billy and I will be leading worship for this Gala. Our entire band will be with us and we are excited to come together in San Antonio for this event. It is an honor to participate in the Gala in this capacity. We have a love for orphans (we have one adopted daughter from China and one on the way from Ethiopia) and for America World (who has serviced and is servicing us with our adoptions). We believe in their vision and know that God will provide for the four initiatives they dream of fulfilling.

The funds raised at the San Antonio Orphans Ticket Home Gala will go towards 4 initiatives:

1. Identification for orphans in China and El Salvador
2. Opening AWAA programs in Bolivia, Brazil, India, Rwanda and Vietnam
3. AWAA Transitional Homes in Ethiopia
4. Older Children's cultural exchange programs in Russia and Ukraine

So - here's how you can participate:

1. Purchase a ticket and attend the Gala. Tickets will cost $40 per person or whole tables can be bought starting at $500.00. Tables seat 8 adults. Go to www.orphanstickethome.org to purchase your tickets online.

2. The tables "start" at $500 because Businesses or individuals also have the opportunity to purchase the tables in different "tiers". The Bronze package is the $500 table, Gold package (1500$), Silver Package (2500$) or Platinum ($5,000 or more).
3. As well, for a business that cannot come, is not local to the area and would like to be a corporate sponsor: Businesses or individuals can purchase a "Flying for the Cause" ticket in the same levels and will be highlighted at the event as well. Businesses do not actually have to be at the event to purchase a table to support the cause and be highlighted! Of course, we'd love them to join us as well! This too can be purchased at: www.orphanstickethome.org - just click HERE.

4. Donate items for the Gala's Silent Auction. All donors will be recognized during the evening's event. We are looking for all sorts of items and services for the auction. Rounds of golf, spa packages, free hotel stays, paintings or other artwork, jewelry, hunting and other out-door equipment and services, movie tickets, themed baskets, antiques, homemade quilts or other quality crafts, lighting fixtures, signed sports paraphernalia, anything of value that you think will sell at a classy Gala event. All donations are tax deductible. Just let me know if you have something you would like to donate and I'll work with you on getting the details together.

5. Spread the word - on YOUR blog, facebook, myspace, church newsletters, small groups, ANY AND ALL of your circles of influence. Feel free to even cut and paste from this post the info you need.

Now - This Gala is huge! Not necessarily in physical size - although we are asking God to surprise us and help us sell out! This Gala and effort is huge because it is for the orphans of the world and there is much spiritual warfare that wars against setting orphans free from the bondages of rejection, hopelessness, hunger, poverty, loneliness. This Gala and the people heading it up need your prayers - as well as America World itself.

Secondly, and on a personal note - I have a challenge to make for all of you who are close family and friends and for any of you who have been impacted by Libby's adoption story or the unfinished adoption story of Lulu. If indeed, Libby or Lulu's story has affected your life in a positive way - you are the one I am speaking to.

I am asking that you consider donating items or purchasing a ticket or donating to "fly for the cause" (see above). You see, the Gala takes place just a few days before Thanksgiving. Our challenge to you is to donate in some way to this Gala as a way to express Thanksgiving to God for all you have. What better way to worship the Lord who has given us life abundant than by putting our gifts to an effort that will give an orphan that same kind of life!

Furthermore, the Gala takes place just 2 days before Libby's 3rd. birthday. As parents, Billy and I believe that one of our roles in Libby's life is to show her how to store up treasure in heaven where rust can not destroy rather than storing up treasure for herself. At Libby's current 2 1/2 years she has more toys than she could possibly need. We are going to use the next several months to teach her the difference between eternal gifts and earthly gifts. This year, we are asking our close friends and family - anyone who would normally give a gift for Libby's birthday - to instead give in some capacity to this Gala so that we can help bring one orphan home in Libby's name - or better yet - in the name of Jesus. Instead of spending money on a birthday party and instead of receiving earthly gifts - we are as a family celebrating Libby's life by making it possible for another orphan's life to be filled with hope.

If you desire to give to the Gala as an expression of Thanksgiving or as a gift in place of Libby's traditional birthday gift you can do so in several ways.
1. You can go online to www.orphanstickethome.org to purchase a ticket or "fly for a cause".
2. You can contact us at: info@billyfoote.com or call us at: 210.481.6776 to work out details for a donation to the Silent Auction.
3. Or - specifically if you are giving in Libby's name so we can purchase a table at the Gala - you can mail us a check made out to: Libby Foote. We will collect all the money given and on Oct. 1 we will put the money towards purchasing a table for the Gala. ALL the money is going to AWAA for their 4 initiatives. Our mailing address is: 3531 Hilldale Point, San Antonio, TX 78261.

The reason we are posting this challenge so soon before Thanksgiving and Libby's birthday is because ticket sales for this Gala have already begun and we don't want to miss out on this opportunity. On Libby's birthday we will post again to announce a BIG THANK YOU for all who donated and we'll let you know the total amount given in her name.

Two final thoughts I don't want to forget to mention. While Billy and I are leading worship and our band guys are being paid - Billy and I are leading for free. I do not share that for our own glory in ANY WAY - I only share so that those who think about giving don't think that we're asking you to give so we can get paid. That is not the case AT ALL! All the money given in Libby's name will go 100% directly towards AWAA's four initiatives.

And lastly, one of the initiatives is extremely special to us. The money used to build new transitional homes in Ethiopia is dear to our hearts as we are praying daily for our little girl who will live in one of those homes prior to our travel to receive her. All the orphans in Ethiopia have such difficult lives before their adoption. The transitional homes are where the orphans live once they have been chosen for an AWAA family and until that family can travel to pick him/her up. In the transitional home the orphans hear the Word of God, they hear music, they are prayed over and they are cared for with such precious delight. It is their preparation for a new life and it is so special to our hearts.

Thank you for taking the time to read this LONG post and may the Lord challenge your heart to give to the cause of orphans - whether to this Gala or in someone else's name or to another agency - however God works that out in your heart.

Love,
The Footes

Fun, Non-Stop Times!

So - recently Libby and I traveled to Charleston, SC to visit my family. It was a great week of visiting family and friends. Here are the pics to prove we were there and having fun:

Libby and Mommy at Folly Beach .

Libby and Taylor play on the rocks.

Libby and Taylor

Libby and Mommy on Daniel Island

Becky (my sister) her girls and her husband, Jason. Such a cute family!

Libby has so many expressions. Here, obviously, she does not want her picture taken. In the photo with us is baby Camryn - my sister's youngest.

My mom.

My sister, baby Camryn and me.

Kelly, Carissa, Libby and I went with Dad to Hampton Park to feed the ducks. I never have a picture of dad because he's always taking the photos.

Libby and I pose for a picture at Ft. Moultrie. Dad and mom went with us for a nice day out.

Libby continues to be expressive as we sit with beautiful Carissa.

My sweet friend Alli and her family visited with us during their vacation in Charleston.

Ava Love (Alli's daughter) and Libby! The necklace Libby is playing with was given to her by Ava. Libby loves that necklace!

Misty and I met at Moe's (love that restaurant and that girl!) to catch up over lunch.

We had a busy stay in Charleston. Meanwhile, Billy was on the San Juan river in NM catching 40 fish on an "okay day". The man can fish - what can I say?

We all returned home on the same day and Libby was very happy to see daddy.
The next day I discovered several major problems on my computer. Microsoft Word was not opening, for starters. I spent the entire day trying to figure that one out only to discover it was my Norton Antivirus (which is now on my bad list). Then, our web guy switched our website to a new server not realizing how much webmail I had saved and filed away under various labels - like 5 or more years of business stuff. So now, I have to go into each email and forward it to a different address and then forward it again to our new server. Long, complicated story - but that's what I have to do and that will take.... FOREVER - not kidding! Like - probably isn't going to happen...

Anyway - my week home didn't start out well with all of that!

The week continued as Billy and I celebrated our 9 year anniversary. We ate at Benihana's, did a little shopping and saw a movie that was so boring we wanted to stick forks in our eyes. Don't go see the new "Mummy" - it is seriously boring! Boring, however, does not describe the last 9 years. I love Billy so much and I can't believe how God has blessed us and our marriage.

Billy and I heading out to celebrate our 9 year anniversary! This man is awesome!

The week came to a close as Billy flew out to Atlanta to speak at a worship conference. While he was away, Libby and I decided to get Aria's room finished. Many hours and a soar back later - pokadots have invaded a little African child's room:

Next week - I start making the training manuals for XTI's and CR's training day - Saturday. And - it's time to catch up with friends here and get back into some kind of routine....
Until next time - Cindy

Smiling Faces, Funny Faces and a Broken Camera

The summer is flying by and tomorrow, Libby and I are flying to Charleston, SC to see my family. I haven't been in Charleston since Thanksgiving so this is a much needed trip to love on family. Billy has already left for the San Juan where he is "ministering" to the rainbow trout. HA!

Libby has enjoyed the camera this summer. She likes taking turns making funny faces and sharing the camera. One evening, after a long day of traveling, we were sitting in the airport desperate to find something for Libby to do. CAMERA TIME! I began taking pictures of her making funny faces and then she wanted me to make funny faces while she took the pictures. She started mimicking my funny faces and before we knew it, everyone sitting around us was in laughter watching this cute 2 year old make silly faces and then take a really nice Canon camera in hand to take pictures of mommy's funny face. It was fun... here's the proof:

funny face #1

funny face #2

now, it's mommy's turn

Libby mimics mommy's fake smile.

Mommy makes the most famous and most uncreative funny face - stick out the tongue!

Libby tries the same... only her tongue sticking out is much cuter.

oh, hold on! Mom's getting really creative now.

Libby, confused by the amazing creativity previously executed, forgets to use her hands in the photo and simply opens wide.

Hopelessly unable to think on the spot... mom tries the hand thing again... only weirder...

Libby is now brainwashed and completely crazy just like her mom.

Suddenly realizing the eyes darting our way, we decide to embrace normalcy and smile for daddy to take a pic.

This summer we had a few special people on the road with our band. First, let me introduce Kennedy. Her daddy is our drummer and she joined us on our 2nd. week of camp. Libby was, of course, elated to have a friend for the journey.

Second, let me introduce MarySommer. She is our electric player's new wife and she was our nanny during camps. Libby ADORES her! And so do we. She was an AWESOME help! She played with Libby all day every day. Thank you MarySommer!

Libby took this picture of MarySommer and I. It was the last picture of the summer because Libby then proceeded to drop the camera on it's lens and now it's broken...sigh. Billy's comment to me when I tried to explain how Libby broke the camera was, "well, technically, YOU broke the camera because you let a toddler hold it." Okay, I'll take that.

Here's couple of other cute photos taken before the camera mishap... enjoy!

Daddy and Libby on the morning of the 4th of July!

Dakota, Maliah and Libby (on July 4th) came out of Mrs. Gill's bedroom wearing all of her slippers and flip flops. So cute!

One afternoon, in our new home, I realized Libby was awfully quiet. I searched the house and this is how I found her - on the potty, "reading" a book - "just like daddy" she said. HAHA!

Me and my girl!

Lastly, I recently received an email including the following information about Xuwen - the town in China that Libby is from. I found the information comforting in some way. It is just good to know what her biological parents might be doing and what surrounds them.

"He said it is a seaport with alot of fish & plant farms. If they aren't
fisherman they are farmers. The main fruits are Watermellon, pineapple
and Banannas. The only problem with Banannas it is the same season as
Typhoon season. If they are hit with a typhoon then it ruins their
bananna crops. They also have a big leechee farm and they also grow
sugar cane. They grow all kinds of vegtables and garlic. There is
alot of water buffalo that roams around and when the kids come home
from school they help take care of the livestock (waterbuffalo,
chickens, ducks, etc.). It is a pretty poor area, no industry."

The "Dora" Influence

Libby recently said a couple of things that were so cute and entirely influenced by "Dora the Explorer" that I had to post about them so as not to forget how funny she can be.

On "Dora the Explorer" there is a character named Swiper who tries to swipe things from Dora. On the way to visit with one of Libby's sweet friends (who sometimes teases Libby by touching me and saying "my momma") Libby looked a little sad sitting in her car seat. I said, "Libby, are you okay?" And Libby said, "Mia's gonna swipe my mommy." I reassured her that it wasn't possible for her friend to swipe me away from her, but she still didn't seem so sure.

Swiper also has a phrase he says often to Dora and it's "now you'll never find it!" On the way home from ClubRising last night I caught Libby picking her nose. I said, "Libby stop picking your nose." She promptly put her "find" in her mouth and said, "Now you'll never find my boogers."
I shouldn't have laughed out loud bc now she'll think it's cute to do such a horrible, disgusting thing... but I just couldn't hold back the laughter on that one.

Family Happiness!

Hello family and friends! I have some exciting news to share concerning my brother, Kelly Graham, and his wife, Carissa! They are pregnant!! I received a phone call a few weeks ago and wanted to share with everyone then, but had to wait until now. Yesterday I received the formal email announcement from Carissa and it said,

"I am pregnant!!!! I had my first Dr.'s appt. today. I am almost 9 weeks and our due date is February 19, 2009. The baby looks very healthy and its little heart was beating at 168 bpm. We even go to see it wiggle! We will find out if its a boy or a girl in mid-October. You can follow my pregnancy journey on my blog at: www.carissagraham.wordpress.com. I haven't posted anything in regards to the baby yet but I will soon! We are so excited and in awe of this beautiful gift God has given us!

Carissa included a few sonogram pictures of baby Graham. I can't wait to know if it's a boy or a girl!! I am so excited for them! Maybe the baby will be born a bit early and arrive on my birthday - Feb. 5!

Tears welled up in my eyes when I saw the sonogram because, though I don't know how old Aria is or if she is even conceived yet, I imagine that the two babies will not be far apart in age. I pictured that "cute little bean" being Aria and wondered - wondered at the magnificent power of God to create in such an amazing way - and wondered, how old is Aria? Is she a little bean right now too? And wondered - about Aria's birthmother and if she knows what is going on in her body right now.

I've asked Carissa to continue to send the sonogram pictures as she receives them so I can keep imaging the development of Aria along with "baby Graham" and pray for them both.

Congrats Kelly and Carissa! I can't believe my little brother is about to be a dad! I know they will both be incredible parents. It is a journey of such beauty, joy and exhaustion and more joy that it makes you feel like your heart is going to burst sometimes. And in addition, parenting reveals so much to us about God's love for us and how He desires for us to live and respond to His love. You can't really know that kind of love until you are in the midst of it. It changes you forever - in the best of ways!

Stayed tuned for more on the adventure...
